Umpcoos Ridge Falls* is east of Reedsport.
GPS N43º 39.017', W123º 53.395', Elevation above sea level 100 ft.
Directions:

  1. At milepost 12.4 on HWY 38 find a wide spot on the south side of the road
  2. Waterfall can be seen through the foliage up the hill
First noticed this one in 2008. When the trees are fully leafed out it is nearly impossible
to see this waterfall. That is why I believe this one hasn't been catalogued yet. It is just too
well camouflaged. If you weren't looking for it you would never see it. I only figured there
might be a waterfall due to the small stream that goes under the road nearby.

There is presently some earthmoving equipment in the area that was used to push back
some rocks. Unknown what is going to happen to this area. Maybe their work will open
up a path to aid in getting a better shot. Until then I'll see about blazing a trail to get a better view.

* Named for a nearby geographic feature. Topo maps show no identifiable creek in this location.

Water volume is never high, but appears to be year-round.

The picture below will give you an idea of just how hard it is to see this waterfall from the road.
The waterfall is at top center and above tall trees.
